Description
This is a rather inhabited valley as well as a quite isolated place from the "civilisation". For this reason we will give you some information that we believe may be of use during your stay.
Shopping
- We recommend to do your main shopping in La Seu d'Urgell. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is a market in the old part of the town. Here you can buy ready harvested cheap products directly from farmers. In the old town centre you will also find all sort of shops ranging from little supermarkets where one finds the best pork meat products, to good cake shops and a shop with sophisticated wines, etc. Early in the morning, when it is still not very hot and there is not much people, this can be a nice walk around.
- Andorra offers its well known hipermarkets or big department stores. At present the cheapest items one can find are those which hold a big amount of taxes in other countries (tobacco, alcohol...). The problem in Andorra is that it is usually very crowded both of people and traffic.
Walks, excursions and activities
- From the beautiful forests of Sant Joan de l'Erm , departure is possible both on foot or by car, to the old hermitage , to the river of Santa Magdalena, to the Coll de l'Eix, or to the Orri Peak (wonderful seesights). Heading for Les Comes de Rubió (little hut where you can have lunch) you arrive to Port del Cantó road leading to Sort.
- La Seu d'Urgell has got a medieval old area and a notorious romanic cathedral. The local museum is also worth a visit. There is a Tourist Office where you can ask for more details.
- At the park "Parc del Segre" you have the possibility to practice different water sports in rough waters.
- Fishing of trout is possible both in the river Segre and in the river Santa Magdalena, but one needs to have a fishing licence.
- In Aravell, there is a brand new Golf field.
- The contiguous valley, Port del Cantó, with Sort as an important town, is very beautiful and offers the possibility of doing Rafting and other adventure sports.
- In Summer every village celebrates its "Fiesta mayor" (local party). These are announced in notices put up around, and they are open to everyone. This is a good occasion for dancing to live music, although it might be late at night.
- In la Seu d'Urgell and other important villages there are often cultural sessions, most times related to their important medieval past.
- Here the forest is very rich in mushrooms and fruits: strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and mirtilles. Making jam, spirits, vinegar and preserves is a productive entertainment.
